A Space For Ethical Discourse On Campus

Mission

The mission of the YUSE (Yale Undergraduate Society of Ethics) is to cultivate and expand discourse on important philosophical issues through participation in the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl competition, an annual distinguished speaker series, an on-campus reading group, and high school education initiatives.

YUSE has hosted numerous speakers, from Yale University, Harvard University, NYU, and other institutions.

History

YUSE began with ethics bowl, a national debate competition held at both the intercollegiate and high school level. In each round of competition, teams are asked complex ethical problems and must respond to questions from both the opposing team and a panel of judges.

In 2022, ethics bowl, believing it could fulfill a broader niche on the Yale campus, expanded into the Yale Undergraduate Society of Ethics, an organization dedicated to ethics and philosophy more generally.

This began with the introduction of the Northrop speaker series, an initiative dedicated to bringing distinguished faculty and speakers from across the country. Now, YUSE fulfils a niche as the premier and one of the few organizations dedicated to philosophy and discussion on Yale's campus.
